Apr 17, 2017 | General
NEW ORLEANS – Tulane Ben Weiner Director of Athletics Chair Troy Dannen announced hiring of Jana Woodson as the department's associate athletics director for external operations.
Woodson arrives after two-plus years at Rice University where she was associate athletics director for marketing since August of 2014. She oversaw the Owls' marketing, branding and video departments. Collaborating the sales and marketing teams, Rice produced a 32-percent increase in season ticket revenue across all sports from 2015 to 2016. With the help of her staffs, the athletics department generated increases of 82 percent in ticket scans, 104 percent in student attendance, 46 percent in tickets sold and 67 percent in revenue from the 2013-14 to 2014-15 men's basketball seasons.
From July of 2006 to 2014, Woodson served as assistant athletics director for marketing and fan development at the University of Richmond. There, she provided oversight of marketing and promotions for the Spiders' 16 sports, as well as operations of the ticket office and spirit squads. Woodson helped produce a 54-percent increase in ticket revenue in 2011, with a 72-percent increase in football ticket revenue over a three-year span. Additionally, she spearheaded one of the largest increases in basketball attendance in the NCAA between 2009-10 and 2010-11.
Prior to her time at Richmond, she worked at the University of Missouri-Kansas City where she began as a promotions coordinator in 2001, earning promotions to director of marketing and senior director of marketing and promotions.
Jana is a member of the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA) and the National Association of Collegiate Women's Athletics Administrators (NACWAA).
A native of Coffeyville, Kansas, Woodson earned a bachelor's degree in sports management from the University of Kansas in 2001 before completing her MBA at UMKC in 2003. She is married to her husband, Mike.
