NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane Green Wave football team, which finished the 2002 regular season with a 7-5 record, will enjoy postseason play in either New Orleans or Hawai'i, the Conference USA office announced Monday.
Tulane's bowl destination will not be decided until after the Cincinnati-East Carolina game on Friday, Dec. 6 in Greenville, N.C. If Cincinnati wins the game and becomes bowl eligible, the Green Wave will travel to Honolulu, Hawai'i for the ConAgra Foods Hawai'i Bowl on December 25th while the Bearcats will play in the New Orleans Bowl Dec. 17th. If Cincinnati loses Friday's game, Tulane will play in the New Orleans Bowl. The host teams for both bowls have already been set with the University of Hawai'i Rainbows staying home for the Honolulu game and the Mean Green of North Texas returning to the New Orleans Bowl for the second straight season.
"As I said last week, I've never met a bowl I didn't like," said Tulane Head Coach Chris Scelfo. "We're excited about being able to go to a bowl game, whether it is here at home in New Orleans or in Hawai'i. It's a great reward for our players and coaches. Right now, we're looking forward to the challenge of preparing for two teams, and this weekend we'll narrow that down to one."
The Tulane Athletics Ticket Office is taking orders for tickets for both the New Orleans Bowl (Dec. 17) and the ConAgra Foods Hawai'i Bowl (Dec. 25). All Green Wave fans are encouraged to buy their tickets through the Tulane Athletics Ticket Office to assure their seating within the Tulane ticket area.
"Both of these bowls are great options for our fans, and provide great playing opportunities for our players," said Tulane Athletics Director Rick Dickson. "We're all anxious to find out where Tulane will be bowling in 2002, but in the meantime, we're making plans for the games and urging our fans to do the same by getting their ticket orders in now."
Fans can contact the Green Wave Athletics Ticket Office at 504-861-WAVE, stop by the office in the James W. Wilson Center from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, or download the bowl ticket application form at www.TulaneGreenWave.com and mail or fax it to the ticket office at Tulane Athletics Ticket Office, Campus Box 5100, Tulane University Station, New Orleans, LA 70118, 504-862-8555 (fax). Credit card numbers and orders for either or both games will be taken, although the card will not be charged until after Tulane's bowl destination is announced and will be charged ONLY for tickets to that game. Fans can indicate the number of tickets they would like to order for either game.
Ticket prices for both the New Orleans Bowl in the Louisiana Superdome (plaza sideline and loge sideline levels) and ConAgra Foods Hawai'i Bowl at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu are $40.
Tulane students will also have a chance to purchase bowl tickets at the special rate of $10 while Green Wave faculty and staff will receive a $10 discount on their first two tickets purchased, regardless of the bowl.
Green Wave Athletics is also working with DMI Travel of New Orleans to offer attractive travel packages to New Orleans (for out of town fans) or Honolulu, which will include transportation, hotel and game tickets as well as tickets to other potential bowl-related events. More information on these travel packages will be available next Monday, Dec. 9.
