Familiar Territory Ahead for Baseball at East Carolina
Apr 1, 2015 | Baseball
GREENVILLE, N.C. - After a convincing win at UNCW on Tuesday evening, the Tulane baseball squad will travel to Greenville, North Carolina, for a three-game American Athletic Conference series against East Carolina at familiar Lewis Field at Clark-LeClair Stadium, beginning on Thursday, April 2, at 5:30pm CT.
Game two of the series will be on Friday, April 3, at 5:30pm CT before the two teams close out the series on Saturday, April 4, at 11am CT. All three games will be broadcast on 88.3 FM WRBH, and paid members of the Tulane All-Access pass can stream live audio and video at TulaneGreenWave.com.
Tulane has been in the Tar Heel State since Monday, as they traveled to play at UNCW on Tuesday afternoon. That game proved fruitful for the Green Wave, as Tulane went on to an 8-4 victory against a solid club. Heading into the weekend series against ECU, the Green Wave have an overall record of 19-10.
East Carolina did not play a midweek game this week, and the Pirates dropped two straight to Memphis last weekend after winning on Friday night. ECU owns an overall record of 17-12. The weekend series is crucial to both teams, as Tulane and ECU have identical 1-2 records in league play.
Sophomore Stephen Alemais continues to swing a hot bat, as he enters the weekend series as the Green Wave's top hitter at .350. Senior John Gandolfo homered for the second time this season on Tuesday night at UNCW, and his average of .280 is good for second on the squad. The team is hitting .247. Seven hitters have posted double-digit RBI totals - up from five from a year ago - with sophomore Hunter Hope leading the way with 16.
ECU is hitting .293 as a team, led by Luke Lowery (.390), Travis Watkins (.379) and Bryce Harman (.330). Lowery paces the club with eight homers and 27 RBI.
Righties Corey Merrill (1-2, 1.93 ERA, 40 Ks) and Emerson Gibbs (3-0, 1.62 ERA, 27 Ks) will get the start for Tulane on Thursday and Friday, respectively. Tulane has not named a starting pitcher yet for Saturday's contest.
ECU will throw lefty Reid Love (2-2, 3.91 ERA, 24 Ks), lefty Evan Kruczynski (5-1, 1.27 ERA, 33 Ks) and righty David Lucroy (2-1, 1.62 ERA, 30 Ks) over the weekend against Tulane.
The trip to Greenville marks the second-straight season in which Tulane has played at Lewis Field at Clark-LeClair Stadium. The Green Wave dropped both games of a Saturday doubleheader in 2014 after picking up the Friday night win. Prior to last season's series loss at ECU, Tulane had won every series played at East Carolina.
