A Walk-On Mentality
Pierce Feltner
The Tulane University football team has group of players who do not receive the credit they deserve. They came to Uptown to work hard and make the Green Wave better. This group shows up and works hard at every opportunity. These players have all come to Tulane as walk on football players. They share what Tulane Football means to them and what they will bring to the table this season.

“Ever since I’ve arrived on campus, I was immediately brought into this family. Tulane football not only means brotherhood to me, but also a way to live by. Coach Fritz's culture is not like anything I’ve ever been apart of before. The motto we go by now 'Good to Great' is not just a motto it’s a philosophy for life. Football here means a lot to me because in football or life, if you want to be the greatest person you can be, you have to bring it everyday, work your tail off and have a smile on your face.”
“My contribution to the team this year will be whatever the coaches have planned for me. If that means I’m a scout team player all year long then that’s what I’ll be. It’s not about me it’s about the team, and I will do anything to help the team in anyway.”
- Logan Ammons, Redshirt Junior, Wide Receiver
“Playing football at Tulane means a great deal to me. It has always been my dream to play division one football and when Tulane gave me the opportunity to play here, it was a dream come true. In my short time here, I have already learned a lot from Coach Fritz. It is obvious why he is regarded as one of the best coaches in the nation. He truly knows how to bring people together for a common goal. Playing division one football while receiving one of the world’s best educations in one of the world’s greatest cities is truly a blessing that I will not take for granted.”
“This season, I plan to contribute to the team in any way possible. Whether that means I get on the field and contribute on special teams, or if its working on scout teams and being and encouraging teammate, I just want to help this team win an AAC championship and take the next step in our program.”
- Chadwick Bailey, Freshman, Safety

“Playing football at Tulane means an opportunity to play big time college football and be competitive in a rising conference year in and year out. It is a great opportunity to receive a world class education while continuing to play the game I love.”
"I’d like to contribute to the team this season by giving 110 percent effort on every single rep to show the guys that heart and determination are just as important as size and speed."
- Hayden Beal, Freshman, Linebacker
“For me, playing football at Tulane means perseverance. In high school, Tulane was one of the first schools that was interested in me. My senior year, however, disaster struck. The day before my visit to Tulane, I tore my ACL, both menisci and my MCL. Quickly, I became disillusioned with football. As other teams began to stop recruiting me as I struggled through my rehab (I lost nearly 20 pounds in what ended up being a little over a year-long rehab), Tulane remained, and ultimately offered me a preferred walk on. At the time, I was still mad at the game for taking away my senior season, so I turned it down. However, after my first semester at Tulane as a student, I felt the love of the game come back to me. After talking with a former player, Richard Carthon, I decided to accept that offer the coaches had given me a little under a year before. Now, I am one of the oldest players on the team. I have learned the power of discipline, determination, and teamwork. Overall, football at Tulane meant a chance to achieve what I once thought I couldn't.”
“My goals for the year are to be a leader and to be the first walk on since I've been here to start on defense. As a linebacker, I've had guys like Zach Harris, Lawrence Graham and Malik Lawal come before me. I learned something special about leadership from each of them. From Zach, I learned the power of preparation and determination. From Lawrence, I learned about passion and grit. From Malik, I learned about composure and a positive attitude. For those guys, I was always the third set of eyes, someone watching and seeing what they couldn't from the sidelines and making suggestions on how we could do better on the fly. Now, as a senior, it is my job to use what I've learned to lead on the field and produce on Saturdays. Alongside my fellow senior leaders Marvin Moody and Kevin Henry, I want our position group to be the best in the conference. Individually, I want to be a dominant player on defense and special teams.”
- Sam Bruchhaus, Redshirt Junior, Linebacker
