Joey Cantafio is in his third season with the Green Wave in 2016-17 as Director of Video & Player Development.
Cantafio heads up the team’s video operations, including opponent scouts and self scouts. He will also facilitate on-campus recruiting activities.
Prior to Tulane, Cantafio coached at Bishop O’Connell High School in Virginia, under legendary coach Joe Wootten. While at Bishop O’Connell, Cantafio helped lead the team to the 2013 WCAC Championship, regarded as the best high school league in the country. In his tenure at O’Connell, he coached several high-profile players such as Melo Trimble (Maryland)—a McDonald’s all-American and 2014 WCAC Player of the Year—and Junior Etou (Rutgers/Tulsa). Cantafio also served as the head junior varsity coach at O’Connell for 2 years and was commissioner of the Morgan Wootten Basketball Camps for three summers.
Cantafio began his collegiate playing career as a walk-on at Virginia Military Institute under coach Duggar Baucom. VMI led NCAA Division I in scoring both seasons. He then transferred to Hampden-Sydney College where he finished out his eligibility under coach Dee Vick.
