BATON ROUGE – Turnovers plagued the Tulane women's basketball team (5-4) on Sunday afternoon at LSU (7-2), as the Green Wave committed 30 all-together in which the Tigers then converted into over half of its points (37) before claiming the 69-51 win inside the Maravich Center. Junior Kolby Morgan was the lone Tulane player in double figures, notching 11 points in which four came via the free-throw line.
"I give LSU a lot of credit, I thought they do what they do well in creating turnovers and turning them into points" Tulane head coach Lisa Stockton stated. "I'm really disappointed we didn't take care of the ball better. We felt like that was a major key going into the game. Also putting them on the free-throw line. I don't think they did a lot of scoring against our half-court defense."
Tulane recorded eight turnovers in each of the first two quarters, digging itself into a 16-10 hole after the opening period, and then down 31-18 at the half. Later still trailing 13 points, down 39-26 at the 4:33 mark in third quarter, LSU kept the Wave off the board for a three-and-a-half minute span, producing a 9-0 run to end the period up 22 points.
Another big difference maker in the game came at the free-throw line. LSU took advantage by knocking down 21-of-30 from the charity stripe compared to Tulane's 8-for-10.
The Wave did outscore LSU 21-17 in the fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough as Tulane dropped its third straight game for the first time since the end of the 2013-14 season.
"We need to handle adversity better," Stockton added. "When we make mistakes and things don't go our way we have to handle it and play the next play. I really need to depend on our upperclassmen for setting the tone for us."
Up next, the Green Wave will kick-off a four-game home-stand, starting with NC State on Saturday, Dec. 17 at 2 p.m. CT.
