Lebron comes to Tulane from the University of Georgia Athletic Association
NEW ORLEANS – Tulane Ben Weiner Director of Athletics Chair Troy Dannen announced today the hiring of Monica Lebron as the Green Wave's new Deputy Athletics Director and Chief Operating Officer. Lebron replaces Barbara Burke, who resigned in late July to accept the position of Senior Associate Athletics Director and Senior Woman Administrator at Iowa.
Â
Lebron joins Tulane after spending the last year as the Associate Athletics Director, Development at the University of Georgia Athletic Association. While there, Lebron oversaw all aspects of athletic fundraising, raising a record $56.96 million for the 2016 fiscal year. Prior to Georgia, Lebron was the Assistant Athletics Director, Development (2012-14) before moving to Associate Athletics Director, Development (2014-15) at Ole Miss.
Â
"Monica brings not just tremendous external experiences from four different Power 5 institutions, but also demonstrated achievement at each stop in her career," stated Dannen. "Her background as a student-athlete at Yale adds to her thorough understanding of the objectives and expectations of a highly successful Division I athletic department, both inside and out. Her reputation for work ethic, character, empathy and effectiveness is as strong as any in the country. Our entire department is thrilled to welcome Monica to the Green Wave family."
Â
In addition to her time at Georgia and Ole Miss, Lebron served as a Senior Major Gifts Officers (2008-11) and Senior Associate Director (2011-12) at the University of California, Berkeley, where she oversaw a portfolio of 500+ donors. Lebron also worked in various capacities at Gator Boosters, Inc., from 2004-08, where she worked heavily with the athletics alumni base.
Â
"I would first like to thank Greg McGarity, Carla Williams, Kelly Kerner, and the entire University of Georgia community for welcoming me and allowing me the opportunity to learn and grow," said Lebron. "The fundraising team laid a strong foundation over the last year and I am confident the teammates I leave behind will continue to build on that momentum. I would also like to thank Troy Dannen and the Tulane Athletics team I will be joining. I've already felt unbelievably welcomed and I look forward to working with everyone in and around the New Orleans community to build something special."
Â
Lebron graduated from Yale University in May 2001, where she was a four-year letterwinner and starter for the school's softball team. She also earned her Master of Sports Administration and Master of Business Administration from Ohio University in June 2003. She is set to earn her Ph.D. in Higher Education from the University of Georgia next year.
