PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Following the third weekend of preseason tournaments, the American Conference has released its players of the week. At the top of the list was junior right-side hitter Sarah Ray, who received offensive player of the week for the first time in her Tulane career.
"We moved Sarah to the right side this weekend and saw her put up some monster numbers," head coach Jim Barnes said. "The team executed our offense and Sarah benefited statistically. I'm proud of her and the team's performance this weekend."
Ray was named tournament MVP at the Clemson Classic after leading Tulane with 52 kills. She set a career high on Friday evening with 27 against North Dakota, helping Tulane to a 3-2 victory over the Fighting Hawks while hitting .396.
Her offensive efforts, which have led Tulane for four straight matches, helped the Green Wave to their second tournament title of the year, including back-to-back match sweeps of Clemson and East Tennessee State for the first time since 2013.
The Green Wave are back in action this weekend for their final non-conference tournament of the year at the Owls Classic, hosted by Florida Atlantic. Tulane will face off against Florida Gulf Coast, Abeline Christian and FAU before opening up conference play at Temple on September 30.
