NEW ORLEANS - Tulane football continues its three-game homestand with its American Athletic Conference opener against Navy.
STORYLINES:
• Tulane (1-1, 0-0 American Athtletic Conference | West) looks to continue its winning ways in hosting conference foe Navy (2-0, 1-0 (American Athtletic Conference | West) in the second of three-straight home games at Yulman Stadium.
• The Green Wave are looking to post back-to-back wins at Yulman for just the second time since the stadium became the program's home field beginning with the 2014 season. The other occurrence came last season in victories over Maine (38-7) on Sept. 19 and UCF (45-31) on Oct. 3.
• Tulane has won its conference opener twice in the last three seasons with the two wins coming in 2013 at Louisiana Tech (24-15) on Sept. 13 as a member of Conference USA and last season in the victory over UCF in its American Athletic Conference opener.
• Redshirt junior cornerback Parry Nickerson was nominated for HERO Sports' HERO of the Week on defensive side for his 96-yard interception return for a touchdown in Tulane's win over Southern.
• Reshirt junior running back Sherman Badie was named American Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in the win over Southern. Badie had 175 all-purpose yards, including 135 on kickoff returns highlighted by an 86-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. His score capped off a stretch to open the game when the Green Wave scored touchdowns on offense, defense and special teams.
• With the win in his home debut, head coach Willie Fritz became the seventh head coach in the last 11 head coaches in program history to get a victory within the first three games of leading the Green Wave. Others to achieve this feat since 1980 were Vince Gibson (third game in 1980), Greg Davis (first game in 1998), Buddy Teevens (first game in 1992), Tommy Bowden (first game in 1997), Chris Scelfo (first game in 1998) and Bob Toledo (third game in 2007). Scelfo's first game was the 1998 Liberty Bowl, replacing Bowden. He got his first regular-season win in the team's second game of the 1999 season.
