Sep 26, 2016 | Football
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Junior placekicker Andrew DiRocco kicked his way to three awards this week being named Special Teams Player of the Week by the American Athletic Conference and Louisiana Sports Writers Association and one of three Stars of the Week by the Lou Groza Collegiate Placekicker Award.
DiRocco made a career-high four field goals and connected on all three of his PAT attempts to help Tulane in its 41-39, four-overtime victory over UL Lafayette. He forced the game to a fourth overtime with a do-or-die 48-yard field goal to close out the third overtime. His 48 yarder was a career long and he also had field goals of 22, 35 and 20 yards. DiRocco's four field goals was the first time a Green Wave player hit four field goals in a game since Cairo Santos made four against East Carolina on Oct. 12, 2013.
In addition, redshirt sophomore wide receiver Terren Encalade was named to The American's honor roll this week for setting career highs in receiving yards (103) and touchdown receptions (3) in the win. His first collegiate score was a 34-yard connection late in the third quarter, his second was Tulane's first play in the first overtime and his third put the Green Wave up in the fourth overtime.
DiRocco becomes the second Tulane player to be named The American's Special Teams Player of the Week this season as redshirt junior running back Sherman Badie won the honor on Sept. 12 after posting 175 all-purpose yards, including 135 on kickoff returns highlighted by an 86-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.
