NEW ORLEANS – For the first time this season, all eleven players of the (-/RV) Tulane women's basketball team (12-6, 3-2) scored on Saturday afternoon as the Green Wave cruised to a 82-56 final at home over University of Houston (8-9, 1-3). Kolby Morgan led with 22 points on 8-of-15 shooting, marking her third straight game with 20+ points. In addition, Morgan's now 1,332 career points moves the junior into Tulane's all-time top-10 scoring list.
Leslie Vorpahl continued her hot streak as well, securing her fourth straight game in double figures with 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting to go along with her game high eight assists. Next, Courtnie Latham rounded out the double-digit scoring with 12 points and four assists.
"I thought it was a great opportunity to have a lot of different players contribute today," Tulane head coach Lisa Stockton stated. "Our team did a great job of getting ahold of the game in the first half. We also won the rebounding battle, 46-36, which was one of our goals. Again, a lot of good performances from a lot of players."
Vorpahl, Morgan and Latham all connected on three's in the opening minutes to ignite the offense, as the momentum later carried over into an 11-0 run over a five-minute stretch in the first, with Tulane jumping out to a 17-4 lead. Meanwhile, the Wave defense held Houston to just 3-of-20 shooting in the period.
The second quarter was a battle of runs, as the Cougars produced two separate 8-0 runs, only to be countered once by a Tulane 7-0 run, then a Wave 11-0 run right before the half, handing the Olive and Blue a 37-22 advantage at the mid-way point.
Tulane then extended its run to 21-2 at 7:53 in the third, building a 45-22 lead. The Wave offense continued to surge for the remainder of the game, shooting 53.3 percent in the third and 56.3 percent in the fourth. Furthermore, Tulane finished 7-of-18 from three, as the Wave have now converted at least seven three's in seven of the past nine games.
When the Wave closed out the 82-56 victory, it marked the sixth straight win over the Cougars, unblemished since joining The American, while they also improved to 8-1 overall at home this season.
Up next, the Green Wave will challenge the 91-game win streak of No. 1 UConn in Storrs, Connecticut, on Sunday, Jan. 22, at Noon CT, airing live on ESPN2.
