Armory Track Invitational
Indoor Track & Field’s Pitts, Cella Highlight Day Two at The Armory
Feb 4, 2017 | Women's Track and Field, Track & Field
NEW YORK – With just three weeks remaining until the American Athletic Conference championships in Birmingham, the women of Tulane's indoor track & field team demonstrated significant progress towards their postseason goals in day two of The Armory Track Invitational in New York City. On the final day of competition, Tulane posted solid results in both track and field events to close out the meet inside of the New Balance Track & Field Center at The Armory.
QUOTE
"We made progress this week, and as we move towards conference, our goal is to have key people break through and make progress towards the postseason. We certainly did that this weekend. Mary Carson Pitts jumped four meters today for the first time this year, and she will be one of the people we depend on at conference. Sarah Cella set a big collegiate best today in the 800m, and Emma Newton and Jessica Duckett were also top performers for us in the individual events. Yesterday's distance medley relay was big because the race we ran yesterday will make us very competitive at the conference meet. Most importantly, some of our key people made solid improvements"

HIGHLIGHTS FROM DAY TWO
For the second day in a row, Tulane women made significant improvements on the track, with freshman Sarah Cella shaving four seconds off her previous time in the 800m for a personal best of 2:12.61. Her eighth-place finish also put her ahead of teammate Jessica Adamson in the event for the first time this season. Sophomore Jessica Duckett also came through for the Green Wave, helping the team to a sixth-place finish in the 4x400 meter relay (3:52.60). Also on the track, redshirt senior Mikayla Sonneborn posted a season-best in the mile run.
In the sole field event of the day, Tulane student-athletes came through in the pole vault, with senior Mary Carson Pitts clearing 4.00m (13-1.5) for the first time this season to tie for third in a competitive field of collegiate athletes.
