Men's Basketball Finalizes Foreign Tour to Spain
Jul 12, 2017 | Men's Basketball
NEW ORLEANS - Head coach Mike Dunleavy, Sr., and the Tulane men's basketball program have finalized plans for a 10-day trip to Spain in August. The Green Wave will depart for the tour on Wednesday, August 9, spend the first five days in Madrid, the final five days in Barcelona and return to New Orleans on Saturday, Aug. 19.
"We're very excited about our team trip to Spain," Dunleavy said. "This experience will do a lot for our program and Tulane University. It's a great opportunity for our team to bond and play competitive games against some really good teams and players.
Tulane will play four exhibition games during the 10-day excursion and opponents will be announced at a later date. Per NCAA rules, the Green Wave can conduct as many as 10 practices as a team prior to departing for their international tour.
"We picked Spain because of how good they are basketball-wise," Dunleavy said. "I was in Barcelona for the 1992 Summer Olympics and the fans there were terrific. They have a strong knowledge of the game."
The trip itinerary also currently includes a number of cultural activities, such as walking and guided bike tours within Madrid and Barcelona, the ancient city of Toledo, Montjuic Park, Prado Museum and cable car tours.
"This is a great opportunity for all of us to play against a higher level of competition and see the world because a lot of us have never left the country, including myself," redshirt senior Cameron Reynolds said. "I think it's going to be a really good time for us to grow as a team and build chemistry heading into next season."
Further details about the Green Wave's Spain tour will be shared as they become available.
