BARCELONA - The Tulane men's basketball team's foreign trip to Spain will be updated regularly during its 10-day venture with day-to-day reflections and photos from events and experiences in Madrid and Barcelona from Aug. 9-19. Local time in Spain is in Central European Standard Time (CEST) and is exactly seven hours ahead of New Orleans (CT).
Friday, Aug. 18
9:45 a.m. (CEST) - The team meets for breakfast inside the hotel before departing for its final tour of the trip.
10:30 a.m. (CEST) - The Green Wave loads up the bus and heads to Basilica de la Sagrada Familia - a large cathedral in the heart of Barcelona.
11:30 a.m. (CEST) - Tulane coaches, staff and student-athletes are greeted by a tour guide at the entrance of the cathedral and receive an electronic device and microphones that provide commentary of the tour guide's (Theresia) words to reduce loud talking inside the building.
The cathedral is under construction, mostly to the top portion of the structure. In addition to the impressive sculpting and architecture of the building, Theresia shares some interesting facts about the history, construction and facts of the cathedral:

Constructed 120 years ago, the cathedral is funded only by donations.

Still under construction, the structure will be complete in 2026 and stand 172 meters tall.

The "magic square" is symbolic, as all the numbers add up to 33 in every direction - the age Jesus Christ was when he was crucified on the cross.

The cathedral is 100 meters long inside and can hold a capacity of 8,000 people.

12:30-1:30 p.m. (CEST) - The tour concludes, as our travel party takes some time to shop the stores in the area during the walk back to the bus. The Green Wave returns to the hotel shortly before 2 p.m., and enjoys a free final afternoon in the city.
5:30 p.m. (CEST) - Following a 30-minute film session, Tulane enjoys a pregame meal inside the hotel.
7:45 p.m. (CEST) - The Green Wave departs the hotel and heads to the gymnasium for the final exhibition game of the foreign tour. The venue, Pavello Poliesportiu Municipal, is the same building Tulane played in against Barcelona Select Wednesday evening.
9:30 p.m. (CEST) - Before tip-off, both the U.S. and Spanish national anthems were played, followed by a one minute moment of silence in rememberance of the victims in Thursday's terrorist attack in Barcelona. A slow, somber song played for that minute as a somber tribute to those lost.

The Green Wave fell behind 5-0 after the opening tip, but stormed back to shoot 10-for-19 (.526) in the first quarter and take a 23-15 advantage into the second period. Mataro would hold Tulane to 35-percent shooting in the frame to win the period, 22-17, as the olive and blue took a 40-37 lead into halftime.
Tulane turned up the defensive pressure in the second half, holding Mataro to 4-for-16 (.250) shooting in the third quarter while making seven of 12 shots to win the period, 20-12. The double-digit lead would stand for a majority of the fourth quarter, as the Green Wave held on for a 79-71 victory.
Cameron Reynolds led five Tulane players in double-figures with 15 points and six rebounds. Melvin Frazier scored 13 points to go with six boards and three steals, Samir Sehic contributed 13 points and nine rebounds off the bench and Ray Ona Embo stuffed the stats sheet with 12 points, five rebounds, six assists and four steals. Colin Slater also reached double-digit points with 10 points, three rebounds and two helpers off the bench.

Tulane will fly out of Barcelona Saturday afternoon (CEST) to catch a connection flight in Charlotte. The Green Wave will arrive in New Orleans late Saturday evening (CT).
