Bowling Places Fourth in Strong Field at Kutztown Invitational

READING, Pa. – No. 9 Tulane bowling compiled 13,488 total pins and finished fourth at the Kutztown Invitational, a 27-team field that included nine of the top 10-ranked teams in the country. The Green Wave posted an 8-5 record and a 201.3 pin average in the tournament.

Tulane entered Sunday in third place in the standings after totaling 10,258 pins through the first two days of the tournament. Freshman Madison McCall earned third-team all-tournament honors after placing 15th in the individual standings with a 212.80 pin average on Saturday. She began the day with a 224, and closed it with a 257 game. The tournament field featured 16 of the top 25-ranked teams in the nation and 173 individual bowlers.

"I am really proud of the team's fourth-place finish," Tulane head coach Hayley Veitch said. "That was an exceptional performance in this tough field of competition. The ladies are working well together on and off the lanes. We have come a long way this year in developing the team culture, and although improvement is still needed, it has definitely helped in achieving our goals."

On Sunday, the Green Wave dropped the bracket opener to No. 5 Sam Houston State, 4.5-1.5, and defeated No. 6 Delaware State, 4-2, before falling to SHSU in the final match, 4-1. Against Delaware State, the Wave fell behind 2-1, but rallied to win the final three games and claim the match.

Tulane had a big day on Saturday, winning its final four traditional matches, and collecting 5,064 pins to jump up to third place from sixth in the standings. After falling to No. 13 Adelphi, 1,035-964, the Wave picked up victories over No. 16 St. Francis (Pa.), 1,036-1,008; No. 14 LIU-Brooklyn, 1,045-945; Howard, 926-792; and Franklin Pierce, 1,093-940.

Friday, the Green Wave recorded 5,194 pins while posting a 3-2 record to stand sixth after one day. Tulane topped Duquesne, 1,151-1,047; St. Francis (Brooklyn), 1,079-942; and Chestnut Hill, 921-840; while falling to No. 10 Fairleigh Dickinson, 1,130-1,062; and No. 8 Maryland Eastern Shore, 1,039-981.

Senior Michelle Ng placed 35th with an average of 200.80, and sophomore Claire Turner placed 58th with an average of 191.40. Ng and Turner both bowled high games of 234. Junior Hailee Hammond bowled one game in traditional play on Saturday, and scored a 279.

The Green Wave return to action Feb. 16-18 at the SFA Jacks Invitational in Houston.
