Track & Field's Selfors Wins 3000m, Sprinters Impress at LSU Bayou Bengal Invite

BATON ROUGE, La. -- Freshman Bridgid Selfors won the 3000m while sprinters freshman Kyah Loyd, sophomore Brandi Hughes and junior Jessica Duckett shined to highlight a successful day for Tulane track and field at the Bayou Bengal Invitational Friday inside the Carl Maddox Field House.
Selfors rolled in the 3000m run, setting a new personal record en route to a first-place finish. Her time of 10:15.29 topped her previous best of 10:25.72 (Vanderbilt Invitational, 1/20) by 10 seconds, and she beat the second-place finisher by nearly three seconds.
The sprinters made waves for the Green Wave again, notching new top times and earning numerous top three finishes. Loyd set a new personal record in the 60m dash prelim, topping her previous best time of 7.79 (Vanderbilt Invite - prelim, 1/20) with a mark of 7.67 to qualify for the finals. Loyd finished fifth (7.68) in the finals.
Duckett and Hughes qualified for the 60m hurdles final with prelim times of 8.78 and 8.71, respectively. Duckett finished second (8.54) and Hughes finished third (8.57) in the finals.
Sophomore Paige Fatland took the top spot in the 800m run, winning the race with a time of 2:23.79 to finish ahead of the second-place competitor by two seconds. Earlier this season as the BSC Panther Icebreaker, Fatland earned a fifth-place finish in the 800m with a time of 2:22.69.
Senior Jacqueline Esmay bested her season-high mark of 14.24m (LSU Purple Tiger) in the weight throw with a distance of 15.09m (49-06.25). Senior Nicole Kauffman set a new PR with a throw of 13.98m, topping 13.48m (2/10/17).

The Green Wave split up next weekend, with half the squad traveling to Albuquerque, N.M., for the Don Kirby Invitational while the other half heads to Seattle to compete in the Husky Classic. Both events open Friday and conclude Saturday.
