
Women's Hoops Set to Face No. 1 Huskies in AAC Quarterfinals

NEW ORLEANS – Bring on the champs.
The No. 9 seed Tulane women's basketball team will look to hand No. 1 UConn its first-ever loss against an American Athletic Conference foe when it faces the Huskies in the AAC Tournament Quarterfinals on Sunday at 5:30 p.m. central.
Sunday's game will be televised live on ESPN3 with Eric Frede and Christy Thomaskutty on the call. The game will also be broadcast on the radio in New Orleans on WRBH 88.3 FM with Gus Kattengell providing commentary.
STARTING FIVE
1. Tulane dominated on offense and defense to defeat Memphis 76-64 in the AAC Tournament First Round on Saturday.
2. Senior Kolby Morgan was a big reason for the win, just missing a triple-double with 27 points on 10 of 12 shooting, eight rebounds and eight assists. All those numbers were the best in her AAC Tournament career.
3. Tulane had 22 assists on its 31 made field goals and added 38 points in the paint, both the second-best numbers for the team all year.
4. Harlyn Wyatt reached double-figure scoring for the second time in three games with 12 points and also added seven rebounds.
5. Tulane has a 4-3 record in the American Athletic Conference Tournament. Tulane is 0-9 lifetime against UConn.
SERIES HISTORY – UCONN
• The Green Wave and Huskies have faced off eight times since Tulane joined the AAC in 2014-15, and UConn has swept Tulane in all of those meetings.
• UConn's average margin of victory in the series is 42.7 points.
• When the teams met in January, UConn defeated the Green Wave 98-45 in Connecticut behind a 72 percent shooting effort from the field. In February, UConn won 91-47.
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
• The Huskies, based in Storrs, Connecticut, are the nation's No. 1 team with an undefeated record of 29-0 overall and 16-0 in the American Athletic Conference.
• The Huskies, who have won 11 national championships, are led in scoring this year by Katie Lou Samuelson's 18.3 points per game. Napheesa Collier (15.5 ppg), Kia Nurse (14.6), Azura Stevens (14.5) and Gabby Williams (10.7) are all also averaging double-figure scoring.
• Samuelson was named the AAC Player of the Year and Nurse was its Defensive Player of the Year.
• UConn ranks No. 1 in the nation in assists, assists per game, field goal percentage, scoring margin, scoring offense and is one of just two undefeated teams in the country.
TULANE IN THE AAC TOURNAMENT
Now in its fourth year in the league, Tulane has a 4-3 record in the American Athletic Conference Tournament. The team went 2-1 in 2015, defeating Houston and Tulsa before falling to USF. In 2016, Tulane defeated Memphis in the opening round before falling in the semifinals to UConn. Last year, Tulane lost its quarterfinal game against No. 4 seed UCF. This season, the Green Wave defeated Memphis in its opening-round contest.
SECOND TEAM ALL-AAC
For the third consecutive year, Tulane senior Kolby Morgan earned a spot on the American Athletic Conference's All-Conference Second Team, the league announced Friday afternoon.
Morgan, who is wrapping up her final year with 19.5 points and 5.4 rebounds per game, was named All-Conference Second Team as a sophomore in 2015-16 and as a junior in 2016-17 as well. She was Third Team All-AAC in her freshman year in 2014-15.
NEAR TRIPLE-DOUBLE AGAIN
For the second time this season, Kolby Morgan neared a triple-double with an incredible performance. On Saturday against Memphis, Morgan set AAC Tournament personal bests with 27 points, 10 made field goals, eight assists and eight rebounds in a win over Memphis. Morgan went 10 of 12 for the field in one of the best games of her career. No player in Tulane history has ever recorded a triple-double.
BEST SCORER IN AAC HISTORY
Kolby Morgan broke a conference record on Saturday, becoming the AAC's all-time leading scorer in conference regular-season and tournament games with 1,215 points in those games. Morgan surpassed former USF player Courtney Williams.
MASTER PASSERS
Tulane tied its second-best passing game of the season on Saturday against Memphis, recording 22 assists. Tulane assisted on 22 of its 31 made field goals. The Green Wave's season high in assists is 29 against Troy in December. Kolby Morgan had a team-high eight assists, Tatyana Lofton had five and Meredith Schulte had four to lead the way against the Tigers.
SEASON-BEST IN THE PAINT
Tulane scored 38 points in the paint against Memphis on Saturday, setting the new second-best mark for the season. The Green Wave's season high for points in the paint is 42 against Houston in January. Tulane's plethora of paint points led the team to a 49 percent shooting effort.
WYATT IN DOUBLE FIGURES
Harlyn Wyatt came off the bench for another great game, recording 12 points and seven rebounds in Tulane's win over Memphis on Saturday. Wyatt has now scored in double figures in two of the last three games after a career-high 18 points at Wichita State on February 24.
