Baseball Concludes Week One of Fall Practice

NEW ORLEANS – For the last week, first-year head coach Travis Jewett and the Tulane baseball team have had their gloves on and their bats in hand for the start of official fall practices.Â
"We're one week in, and we've gotten better every day,"Â Jewett said. The kids are getting better physically and we're becoming more and more of a team, and that's something we're going to be able to hang our hats on. We've been working on getting in baseball shape as well as getting in shape mentally so that we can slowly push forward to longer scrimmages. This training environment is an opportunity for them to show themselves, their teammates and their coaches how much they're improving, and their hard work is starting to pay off."
The Tulane baseball squad started up official fall practices last Sunday with a team meeting before the players hit the diamond for a few hours of basic skill work and the first batting practice of the fall. For the remainder of the week, the team continued through conditioning drills, base-running techniques and sessions in the Theresa Sofio Hitting Facility.
The week concluded on Sunday evening with the team's first intrasquad of the season. Coach Jewett and his staff coached the players through their first three innings of baseball together, focusing on communication between positions and hustling to make key plays as well as working with young pitchers getting their first taste of college baseball.
This week, the team will be out at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium starting at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday, 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday and Friday, 9:00 a.m. on Saturday and 4:00 p.m. on Sunday. All practices are free and open to the public.
Fall training will continue through the weekend of Friday, Oct. 28 and will conclude with an alumni weekend as well as the annual Fall World Series. A schedule of the weekend's events will be released at a later date.
