HOUSTON – Tulane baseball dropped the series finale at No. 12 Houston, 12-2, in seven innings Sunday afternoon at Schroeder Park.Â

It was the first American Athletic Conference series loss this season for the Green Wave (20-21, 8-4 American), which is now tied for first place in the league with the Cougars (27-12, 8-4 American).

Houston scored nine runs in the first inning, and scored a run in the fifth and two in the seventh. Kody Hoese drove in Jarret DeHart with a single in the fourth inning, and Hunter Williams homered to start the sixth.

Tulane got on the board in the fourth inning when DeHart reached on a two-out error at short, then scored after Grant Brown and Hoese hit back-to-back singles. Williams led off the sixth inning with an opposite field solo home run inside the foul pole in right field. It was his eight homer of the season, tying for the team lead with DeHart and Hunter Hope.

Houston scored nine runs in the first inning, beginning with a home run by Connor Wong. Three walks loaded the bases, and a wild pitch and four singles plated five runs before Wong hit a three-run home run. He also homered in the fifth inning. A triple, RBI single and a wild pitch scored two runs in the seventh to make it 12-2.

Ross Massey (0-6) started and took the loss for Tulane, while Houston starter John King (5-1) earned the win.

The Green Wave plays host to LSU at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.
