NEW ORLEANS – Tulane baseball dropped its American Athletic Conference series finale against UCF, 11-1, Sunday afternoon at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.

Grant Brown homered in the second inning to score the only run for the Green Wave, which fell to 23-26 overall and 10-8 in conference play. Sam Bjorngjeld (3-4) took the loss, while Joseph Sheridan (9-3) earned the win for the Knights (33-15, 11-7 American).

Tulane responded to UCF's two-run second inning with a run in the bottom of the frame on Brown's opposite field home run to right. It was his fourth homer of the season, and the fifth hit of the weekend.

UCF took the lead with two runs in the top of the second on a pair of bases-loaded walks. The Knights extended their lead to 7-1 with five runs in the third on seven hits, including RBI doubles by Kam Gellinger and Logan Heiser and run-scoring singles by Luke Hamblin and Brennan Bozeman. Heiser and Hamblin each doubled home a run in the seventh, and a sacrifice fly by Kyle Marsh in the eighth and an RBI single by Eli Putnam in the ninth made it 11-1.

The Green Wave mounted a two-out threat in the fifth when Kody Hoese and Jonathon Artigues reached on back-to-back base hits, but a drive to right center was caught to end the inning. It was the third hit of the year for Artigues, a redshirt freshman infielder converted to catcher who played Saturday and Sunday after Paul Gozzo was injured in Friday's game.

Tulane returns to action next weekend against Houston at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium. Game times are 6:30 p.m. Friday, 2:30 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday. Saturday's game will be televised on CBS Sports Network.
