Romero Wins at Omni Hotels Region III Championship

KNOXVILLE, Tenn - Tulane University junior Victor Romero (Atizapan, Mexico) won his second round match at the Omni Hotels Region III Championships Thursday afternoon.
Romero, who had a first round bye, topped, Andrew Golub from Miami, 6-2, 2-6, 7-6.
"Victor's trying to put me in the hospital," Tulane head coach Robert Klein said. "He saved five match points in the third-set tiebreaker before winning."
The Green Wave junior, ranked No. 55 in the nation, will meet Michael Staniak from Middle Tennessee State at 10:30 a.m. Friday. Staniak defeated South Florida's Jorge Escallon, 6-3, 6-4, Thursday.
Tulane junior Mattias Westerberg (Lulea, Sweden) was upended in his first round match, falling 6-2, 6-4, to Rahim Esmail from Kentucky.
Fifteen Omni Hotels Regional Championships for Division I are currently taking place to help determine the field for this year's Omni Hotels National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships. The Indoor Championships will take place Nov. 8-11, hosted by SMU at the Brookhaven Country Club in Farmers Branch, Texas
