Good Neighbor Basics
Tailgating is a family-friendly Tulane tradition — let’s keep it that way.
• Be mindful of language and music volume
• Groups are responsible for their guests’ behavior
• Stick to the space you need; tailgating isn’t permitted at vehicles (including truck beds) or on sidewalks and landscaped areas
• Bag your trash — bags are provided around campus, and recycling bins are available too
Tent Rules
• Max size: 10’ x 10’. Anything larger needs a City of New Orleans permit and must come from the university’s authorized vendor.
• No setup on sidewalks, bike paths, or travel lanes
• No staking into the ground — use sandbags or weights instead
• Take tents down before heading into the game
• Tent owners are responsible for any damage caused by a tent taking flight
• No outside tent/equipment rentals on campus
• Tents need space between them (fire code) — no connecting tents or blocking fire lanes
Alcohol Policy
• Must be 21+ to drink; university policy, city ordinances, and state law apply
• No abusive drinking, drinking games, or rapid-consumption devices (funnels, etc.)
• Public intoxication won’t be tolerated
• Beer and wine are welcome — no kegs/party balls or glass containers
• No beer trucks or open bars without authorization from University Event Game Day Management
• Groups are responsible for making sure only guests 21+ are served
• Full policy: Tulane Alcohol and Other Drugs Policy
Food & Grilling
• Bring your own food and drinks
• Propane grilling only, and grills must be elevated
• No trailer-mounted grills; max 36” diameter or length
• Keep grills out of travel lanes, parking spaces, buildings, and away from tents
• Dispose of charcoal/embers in the designated receptacles — not trash cans or under trees
• Vendors/companies must be licensed and approved by Tulane to distribute samples
• Craving catering instead? Aramark is the preferred campus option
Wrapping Up
• Clean your area before heading to the game — trash and recyclables go in the bins provided in Tailgate Village
• Store leftover food and drinks properly
• Finish cleanup before entering the stadium
• Secure your belongings before you go — Tulane isn’t responsible for unattended tents or items
Good to Know
Generators: Allowed but discouraged. Must include a noise-reducing cover/muffler and stay under 60 dBA. No refueling while running, and keep them away from enclosed spaces or building air intakes. Battery-powered inverters are the recommended alternative — quieter, no fumes, no gas cans.
Motorized vehicles: Non-Tulane golf carts, mopeds, scooters, ATVs, and go-carts aren’t permitted on campus.
Political activity: As a university, Tulane can’t endorse political candidates or issues — no campaign signage or materials, even with a parking permit.
Portable toilets: No need to bring your own — they’re provided throughout campus.
Signage & solicitation: Business banners, promotional materials, and flyers require prior Tulane approval. Solicitation on campus isn’t permitted without it.
Utilities: Tulane’s electrical outlets and utilities are for university use only — this is enforced, though cell phone charging stations are the exception.
