Westerberg Falls in Second Round for Men's Tennis

LAFAYETTE, La. - Tulane University junior Mattias Westerberg (Lulea, Sweden) picked up a victory in the opening round of Flight A singles at the 2001 Cingular Wireless Tennis Tournament at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette Friday morning. However, he was eliminated from the event in his afternoon match.
Westerberg, who is battling a strained muscle, was forced to serve underhand for much of his first match, but still managed to win, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 over Ola Bentzen from UT-Arlington. However, in his second-round match with LSU's Brandon Nicholson on Friday afternoon, he was stopped 6-2, 7-6, 6-4 in a gutsy effort.
Also in action Friday afternoon was sophomore Tatsuhiro Ishii (Nashville, Tenn.). In Flight B singles, Ishii was defeated in the first round by Milos Vasovic from Southeastern Louisiana, 6-1, 6-4. Ishii will play in the consolation round on Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m.
