
Griffin Leads Tulane at Cleveland Golf Championships

AIKEN, S.C. -- New Orleans Jesuit product James Griffin fired a first round 76 and is the top Tulane golfer after the first day of the Cleveland Golf Collegiate Championship being played at the par 71, 6,380-yard Palmetto Golf Club in Aiken, S.C.
As a team, Tulane struggled to rounds of 313 and 318 and stands in 15th place after 36 holes. In the team race, Wake Forest leads the tournament, followed by Augusta State, Virginia Tech, Kansas and Virginia Commonwealth.
Tulane senior Justin Strausbaugh and sophomore Phil Krass contributed rounds of 78 in the morning round while sophomores Byron Shultz and Bryon McDougall carded the lowest second rounds of the day for the Green Wave during the afternoon.
Griffin is tied for 51st while Strausbaugh and Krass are in a group tied for 56th. Coastal Carolina's Rafael Vera is the individual leader with a five-under par 137 followed by Oliver Wilson of Augusta State at two under-par 140.
The tournament concludes Tuesday with a single round on the Palmetto Course.
