NEW ORLEANS -- Mark Sullivan, a 5-11 righthander from Plano, Texas, has signed a national letter of intent to play men's golf at Tulane, Wave coach Tom Shaw announced Tuesday.
Sullivan won several Texas high school tournaments as a member of the Jesuit College Prep team in Dallas over the last two years. He follows fellow Texan, and good friend, Chris Wheeler to Tulane. Wheeler signed with Tulane last fall and recommended Sullivan to Shaw after playing many tournaments together during their junior careers.
"The signing of Mark Sullivan completes a very strong recruiting class for the Tulane men's golf program," Shaw said. "Once I got to know Mark and his family, I knew that Tulane would be lucky to have him as a student-athlete. The 'Texas Twosome' of Chris Wheeler and Mark Sullivan should provide many great highlights for the Green Wave in the future."
With the addition of Sullivan, Shaw's first signing class now includes five golfers. Earlier this spring, Bill Roach, Jr. (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Jeff Osborn (Glendale, Calif.) joined fall recruits Wheeler (Allen, Texas) and Justin Ouimet (Hilton Head, S.C.) in inking with the Green Wave.
"I know Green Wave fans are going to be pleased with this signing as it represents another young man accepting the challenge to take the Tulane men's golf team into national prominence," Shaw said. "With this group of freshman joining our returning players, I'm confident that we'll see improvement in 2001-02."
