NEW ORLEANS, La. - Freshman outfielder Brian Bogusevic earned the first weekly award of his collegiate career Monday morning when the rookie from Glen Oaks, Ill., was named Conference USA Hitter of the Week.
Bogusevic, who hit .769 and tallied a 1.154 slugging percentage with three doubles, a triple and five RBI in the Green Wave's 4-0 week, posted three multiple-hit games, including a 4-for-4 showing with two doubles Wednesday vs. Louisiana Lafayette. In addition to his heroics at the plate, Bogusevic also saw time on the mound where he delivered 2.0 scoreless innings of relief in Sunday's 13-0 win over Manhattan.
Following Wednesday's four-hit showing, Bogusevic opened the series vs. Manhattan with a 2-for-4 outing on Friday, went 1-for-1 with a pair of walks on Saturday, and went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple and three RBI on Sunday. He also tallied a .812 on-base percentage for the week after tallying 10 hits and three walks in 16 trips to the plate.
Bogusevic became the second Tulane player to earn C-USA Hitter of the Week honors and third player on the squad to earn weekly recognition as senior centerfielder Jonny Kaplan was named league hitter of the week on Feb. 10 and junior first baseman Michael Aubrey claimed the Louisiana Player of the Week title on Feb. 17.
For the season, Bogusevic ranks third on the team and 10th in C-USA with a .407 batting average. He also ranks third on the squad with a .469 slugging percentage courtesy of a home run, six doubles and two triples.
Bogusevic and the Green Wave return to action on Tuesday, March 11 when they take on arch-rival LSU at Zephyr Field with first pitch scheduled for 7:07 p.m. For ticket information to that game as well as future Green Wave contests, contact the Tulane Athletics Ticket Office at (504) 861-WAVE.
