HOUSTON - Something's got to give on Saturday when the Tulane men's basketball team visits the University of Houston in a Conference USA tilt at 4 p.m. CST at Hofheinz Pavilion.
The Green Wave (12-11, 2-8 C-USA) has lost the last eight games, including at SMU on Wednesday, 66-61. Houston (11-11, 3-6 C-USA) has dropped five straight games, including a 76-71 overtime loss at Tulsa last Saturday.
Tulane has not won since defeating SMU at home, 79-70, back on Jan. 8, but three of the loses in the streak have been by five points or fewer.
Houston losing streak includes a pair of overtime losses and a one-point loss.
"Houston is a talented basketball team and I'm sure the will come out ready to play and try to get back on the win side," Tulane head coach Ed Conroy said. "We are playing better basketball as well. The last few halves we've played better and moved the ball better. Now we have to see if we can put it all together."
Kendall Timmons continues to lead the Green Wave with 17.0 points and 8.9 rebounds per game. The sophomore scored 10 in the loss at SMU on Wednesday to extend his double figure scoring streak to 22 straight games.
Jordan Callahan, who poured in 16 points at SMU, is averaging 13.5 points and 3.8 assists per game for Tulane, while Kris Richard is posting 12.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per outing.
Senior Adam Brown leads Houston with 14.1 points per game, while Maurice McNeil is averaging 13.0 points and a team-high 8.0 rebounds per contest.
As a team the Cougars are scoring 69.7 points a game and shooting 45.7 percent from the floor. Houston is allowing 68.0 points a game and opponents are shooting 41.0 percent.
Tulane is connecting on 43.1 percent of their shots from the floor and posting 69.8 points per game. The Green Wave opponents are shooting 44.4 percent and averaging 64.3 points an outing.
This will be the 25th meeting between the two schools. The previous 24 meeting shave been split at 12 wins each, but Houston has won four of the last five. Tulane ended the Cougars four-game winning streak over them with a 79-76 victory in last year's regular season finale in Fogelman Arena.
Tulane returns home for a pair of games next week beginning with UCF on Wednesday at 7 p.m. CST followed by Marshall at 7 p.m. CST on Saturday.
