NOTES FOLLOWING TULANE FOOTBALL'S 45-31 VICTORY VS. UCF
Tulane 45, UCF 31
Tulane Game 4
Yulman Stadium
New Orleans, La.
- Saturday's game between Tulane and UCF marked the seventh meeting between the two programs. Prior to today's win, which snapped a three-game skid to the Knights, the Green Wave last defeated the Knights on Nov. 18, 2006, by a score of 10-9 at the Louisiana Superdome. UCF still owns the overall series record at 5-2, but is now 2-2 in New Orleans.
- One player for Tulane made his collegiate debut on Saturday against UCF, and it was a big note, as sophomore DS Aaron Golubsnapped on a PAT in the fourth quarter. Golub is legally blind with no sight in his right eye and limited vision in his left eye. He became the first legally blind players to play in a Football Bowl Subdivision game.
- Tulane won its first American opener and is now 1-1 in two seasons as a league member, and also won its first conference opener since defeating Louisiana Tech, 24-15, during its final season in Conference USA.
- Tulane is now 4-3 when coming off a bye week under head coach Curtis Johnson.
- The five turnovers by the Green Wave today gave Tulane their third multi-turnover game of the season, joining the contests against Duke on Sept. 3 (two fumbles) and against Maine on Sept. 19 (two interceptions).
- Tulane converted the five turnovers into 28 points, which tied an American single game record. Houston also had 28 points off six Rutgers turnovers on Oct. 26, 2013.
Saturday's game was the first 11 a.m. CST start for Tulane since 2012 when the Green Wave hosted Ole Miss. It also marks just the third 11 a.m. kickoff since 2007, when Tulane played LSU.
The 45 points scored by Tulane was the most since the Green Wave put up 45 against UTEP on Nov. 23, 2013, and was the most by Tulane in an American Athletic Conference game.
With a forced fumble by redshirt-sophomore CBParry Nickerson that was recovered by junior CB Richard Allen, a forced fumble by senior DE Royce LaFrance that was recovered by redshirt-senior DT Corey Redwine and interceptions by freshman SS Roderic Teamer, sophomore LB Rae Juan Marbley and freshman CB Taris Shenall, Tulane has now recorded at least one turnovers in 39 of 41 games under Tulane head coach Curtis Johnson. Tulane has posted 97 turnovers during that span. On the 2015 campaign, Tulane has five interceptions and five fumble recoveries.
True freshmen SS Roderic Teamer and CB Taris Shenall each collected their first-career interceptions during Saturday's contest. Three of the five interceptions by the Green Wave on the season are by true freshmen, as Dedrick Shy picked up his first-career pick against Maine on Sept. 19.
Sophomore Rae Juan Marbley notched his first-career interception during the third quarter of the contest.
The Green Wave set a season-high in tackles for loss with 12.0, including 7.0 sacks for Tulane's first multi-sack game of the year. The 7.0 sacks are the most since Tulane recorded seven at Rice on Nov. 30, 2013.
Tulane's 24 first half points were the most scored by the Green Wave since putting up 28 against Southeastern Louisiana on Sept. 13, 2014, in a 35-20 win.
The very first play after the first fumble recovery by Richard Allen, redshirt-sophomore QB Tanner Lee found sophomore WR Teddy Veal for a 49-yard touchdown reception. The points scored off the turnover were the first on the season by the Green Wave. Tulane finished the game with 28 points scored off turnovers.
Senior DE Royce LaFrance set a career high in sacks with 3.0, giving him a total of 16.5 for his career to move him into third in school history, passing Dezman Moses (15.5 from 2010-11).
The 3.0 sacks by LaFrance marked the first 3.0-sack game by an individual since Julius Warmsley accomplished the feat against Southeastern Louisiana on Sept. 3, 2011.
Redshirt junior RB Josh Rounds set a career best with 93 yards rushing to lead the Green Wave. He carried the ball 14 times.
Senior P Peter Picerelli inched closer to the most punts in school history, as he notched six punts for 191 yards. With 243 punts, Picerelli now needs just seven punts to pass Chip Clark (1990-93) for most in school history. He also now only needs 261 yards to pass Clark on the all-time punt yardage list.
Junior LB Eric Thomas set a career high in tackles with nine tackles (7 solo, 2 assists).

The touchdown connection between Ardoin and Lee marked the first touchdown scored in the first quarter of a game by the Green Wave since Nov. 8, 2014, in a 31-14 victory over Houston.
True freshman WR Rickey Preston posted his first-career touchdown reception on a 17-yard pass from redshirt-junior QB Devin Powell in the fourth quarter.
