
Tulane's Sam Scofield Recognized by the National Football Foundation

New Orleans - Tulane senior Sam Scofield has been recognized for his success in the classroom as well as on the gridiron with his selection to the 2015 NFF Hampshire Honor Society, the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF).
The NFF Hampshire Honor Society is comprised of college football players from all divisions of play who each maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college career. A total of 817 players from a record 278 schools qualified for membership in the society's ninth year.
A native of Lafayette, La., Scofield was named to the Capital One Academic All-America Second Team and Academic All-District 6 First Team for the second straight year and is a four-time member of the Tulane 3.0 Club.
On the field this past season, he started all 12 games and was selected to the All-American Athletic Conference and Phil Steele Publications Second Teams, the College Sports Madness All-American Athletic Conference Third Team and to the All-Louisiana first team. Scofield paced the Wave with 94 tackles while ranking tied for second with three interceptions, added one fumble recovery, one sack and was sixth in tackles for loss (5.0). He produced two games with double-digit tackles, including a season-high 17 stops at East Carolina and had 14 at Tulsa.
Scofield sports a 3.77 cumulative grade-point-average as a finance major in Tulane's prestigious A.B. Freeman School of Business and will graduate next week.
Qualifications for membership in the NFF Hampshire Honor Society include:
Being a starter or a significant contributor in one's last year of eligibility (or a senior who has declared for the NFL Draft) at an NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision, Football Championship Subdivision, Division II, Division III or an NAIA college or university;
Achieving a 3.2 cumulative grade point average throughout entire course of undergraduate study; and
Meeting all NCAA/NAIA-mandated progress towards degree requirements.
