NEW ORLEANS - Tulane football was right back at it Monday morning with a two-hour practice on the Benson Field turf at Yulman Stadium.
Tulane (3-2, 0-1 American Athletic Conference | West) jumped back into game week mode week mode quickly with a short week to prepare for a crucial conference clash with Memphis (4-1, 1-0 American Athletic Conference | West) on Friday night. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT on ESPNU.
"We did some good on good and some fast-paced stuff. We needed to do that get our guys back used to the speed of the game," said head coach Willie Fritz.
The speed of Friday's clash under the lights should be a classic one pitting the Tigers' offense, ranked fifth in The American in total offense at 446.4 yards per against, against the Green Wave's defense, ranked second in The American in total defense at 309.0 yards per game. But the deciding factor in the game could come down to turnovers as two teams are 1-2 in the conference in turnover margin - Tulane first at +8 and Memphis tied for second at +7.
"We have been emphasizing what we have always emphasized - making sure we have great attention to detail, ball security and ball awareness," said Fritz. "They are a really good team at taking the ball away, one of the leading teams in the country. So that's going to be a very important part of the game."
