NEW ORLEANS - Tulane beach volleyball standout Jackie Wegner was the unanimous selection for the inaugural 2016 Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) Beach Volleyball Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Wegner was joined by nine other beach volleyball student-athletes on the All-Academic Team, announced Wednesday by the league office.
A senior from Clearwater, Fla., Wegner has been a steady presence for the Green Wave (17-12) all season long. She owns a 22-7 overall record playing all her matches at the No. 1 position. Wegner and her playing partner Tea Juric opened the season with 12 wins in their first 13 matches and has helped the Green Wave to three wins over nationally ranked teams this season. Wegner and Juric have participated in back-to-back AVCA National Pair Championship events.
In the classroom, Wegner holds a 3.98 cumulative GPA as a Finance major with a Masters in Accounting. Wegner also was part of the first Tulane beach volleyball pair to win 30 matches in a regular season, when she went 30-11 last season.
The All-Academic Team recognizes student-athletes who excel both on the field and in the classroom. All the members of the team boast a 3.30 cumulative grade point average or better and participated in at least half of their team's games.
