NEW ORLEANS - Junior Tyler Schick and sophomore Luis Erlenbusch posted respective 2-0 singles records and clinched spots in the qualifying draw on day two of the 2017 Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships on Sunday in Tulsa. In Tulsa, the final two rounds of pre-qualifying singles action began the day with many hopefuls, but only 32 players would earn bids into Monday's qualifying draw.
Schick was first on the court and had to fight through a three-set battle, but outlasted Humberto Lopez from UC Irvine in a third-set tiebreaker, 6-3, 5-7, 7-6(4). He had less trouble getting through his second and final match of the day, topping Ryan van Flymen from Eastern Kentucky, 7-5, 6-2, to punch his ticket into the first round of Monday's qualifying draw.
Erlenbusch made relatively quick work of his two opponents, downing Northwestern's Jason Siedman, 7-5, 6-1, in his first matchup, before defeating Elijah Melendez of Georgia Tech, 6-3, 6-3, to earn his spot in the qualifying draw.
The Green Wave will now have three participants in the qualifying draw, as sophomore and 77th-ranked Ewan Moore will also begin play on Monday. Senior and 13th-ranked Constantin Schmitz will wait a few more days as he earned an automatic bid into the main draw.
