Tulane Student-Athletes Enshrined on “Graduated With Honors” Wall for 2020 Class
Nov 9, 2020 | General
NEW ORLEANS – For the third year in a row, the Tulane University Department of Athletics officially enshrined a distinguished group of student-athletes who graduated with the class of 2020 on the "Graduated With Honors" Wall.
In all, 19 Green Wave student-athletes across eight athletic teams earned placement on the wall. Honors are bestowed upon those who graduate with cum laude (3.6 GPA), magna cum laude (3.8 GPA) and summa cum laude (3.9 GPA) distinctions.
"The 2020 graduating class is exceptional, and these graduates epitomized the commitment to academics that persists among Tulane student-athletes," Tulane senior associate athletics director for academic services Dr. Charvi Greer said. "The evidence of their hard work will be enshrined to motivate and inspire those to come."
Among the 19 honorees, two student-athletes, Kate McDonald and Corey Dublin, returned to Uptown to pursue graduate degrees while continuing to compete for the Green Wave during the 2020-21 academic year due to their remaining athletic eligibility.
In her fourth season as a member of the women's swimming and diving team, McDonald is a three-time All-American Athletic Conference selection and earned trips to the medal stand with top three finishes in three different events at the 2020 championship meet. She graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree in neuroscience and is currently pursuing her master's degree in neuroscience as well.
"I am very proud to graduate with honors from such a prestigious university and athletic department," McDonald said. "The support of my teammates and coaches was vital to my success as an undergraduate and I am very grateful to be a part of such an incredible team. I would also like to thank the athletic department and donors responsible for the Graduated with Honors Wall for their efforts in recognizing academic achievement."
Dublin, an offensive lineman on the football team, has started every game for the Green Wave since arriving as a freshman in 2017. He is a three-time AAC All-Academic Team selection and was selected as a 2019 All-American Athletic Conference Team Honorable Mention. He graduated cum laude with a bachelor's degree in management and finance and is currently pursuing his MBA.
"What makes this recognition truly special is that I was able to achieve this honor at an elite level academic institution in only three years," Dublin said. "Being from New Orleans, Tulane will have a special place in my heart, and to have my name listed among some of the top student-athletes at our institution means a lot."
The "Graduated With Honors" Wall was erected in the James W. Wilson Intercollegiate Athletics Center in 2018 and made possible by the generosity of Tulane alumnus Donald Peters (A&S '81) and his wife, Lora. They have contributed more than $3 million to the Green Wave Club and Tulane Athletics.
"Don and Lora have an unmatched commitment to our student-athletes' academic success," Tulane associate athletics director for development Tyler Kai said. "The Graduated With Honors recognition wall was inspired by their generous support and exemplifies the pinnacle of student-athlete academic excellence at Tulane."
The wall is located in the atrium of the Wilson Center beside the entrance to the academic service center which houses advisors who work with student-athletes. There, student-athletes receive the necessary tools and guidance to be successful in both athletics and academics through areas such as tutoring, mentoring, life skills and career development.
