Sample Named American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week
Sep 14, 2020 | Football
NEW ORLEANS – Tulane senior defensive lineman Cameron Sample was selected as the American Athletic Conference defensive player of the week on Monday by the league office.
Redshirt freshman running back Tyjae Spears also was recognized by the league office, as he was named to the AAC weekly honor roll.
Sample was named defensive player of the week after he was a one-man wrecking crew in the Green Wave's 27-24 win at South Alabama. In the win over the Jaguars, Sample tallied a pair of sacks, a career-high 3.5 tackles for loss and forced his first career fumble. The Snellville, Georgia, native also played a key role in limiting South Alabama to just 13 yards rushing in the second half.
Spears earned the weekly honor after he rushed for a career-high 105 yards (9.5 yards per carry) on just 11 carries.
Tulane welcomes Navy to Yulman Stadium on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. and will be aired live on ABC.
