Sep 15, 2023 | Sailing
AUSTIN, Texas – Tulane sailing earned its first victory of the fall campaign on Friday as it claimed the SEISA Match Race Championship. The Green Wave defeated the Texas Longhorns 3-1 to secure the title on the waters of Lake Travis.
With the win the Wave secured a berth in the ICSA Match Race National Championship which will be held in Charleston, South Carolina, November 3-5.
"While there were a couple races that were a bit too close for comfort," head coach Charles Higgins said. "At the end of the day the squad did a great job of closing it out and punching their ticket to the National Championship in Charleston in November."
Tulane was led by freshman skipper Hamilton Barclay along with crews Zander King and Mia Hanes to defeat Texas three times in four races and win the championship.
Up next, the Wave will race in the SEISA Open and Women's Singlehanded Championships. Barclay and Thad Lettsome will represent Tulane in the open races while Ava Anderson, Oakley Cunningham, and Audrey Permenter will take to the water for the women's races.
