Green Wave Leads at Sugar Bowl Fleet Races

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University sailing holds the top spot in the standings after the first day of racing in both the Sugar Bowl Open and Women's Fleet Races on Lake Pontchartrain Saturday. Each competition completed five rotations before the opening day on the water ended.

In the open fleet race, Tulane holds the top three spots on the leader board with team Angry Wave leading the way with 34 total points. The duo of Hamilton Barclay and Claire Lewis finished the day with the top overall score of 12 points in B Division for team Angry Wave. In second place is team Riptide with 52 total points followed by team Green Wave with 69 points.

Meanwhile, in the women's fleet race the Green Wave has three of the top four teams on the water through five rotations. Team Green Wave paced Tulane on the first day with 49 total points to sit in first behind a stellar. The top duo for the Wave came from the A Division for team Angry Wave as Sammie Gardner and Andrea Riefkohl-Gonzalez posted a stellar nine points in five races. Team Angry Wave sits in third place with 53 points followed by team Riptide with 65 points in fourth. Rounding out the teams for Tulane was team Roll Wave in sixth with 104 points.

Tulane will be back on the water Sunday morning to finish the Sugar Bowl regatta on Lake Pontchartrain. Racing is set to begin at 10 a.m. and the first 25 fans in attendance will receive a free Tulane Green Wave visor.
