
Beach Volleyball Competes at Nationals

HUNTSVILLE – Tulane Beach Volleyball sent two pairs to the AVCA Fall National Beach Championships this weekend, held in Huntsville Nov. 15-17. Both pairs won three matches and made it to the championship round whilst competing against the best collegiate beach volleyball pairs in the country.Â
"We were thrilled to have 2 pairs representing the Tulane beach volleyball program at the AVCA Pairs National Championship," Assistant Coach Cassidi Stabile said. "Competing against some of the top pairs in the country presented the opportunity to grow mentally, physically, and emotionally. Mission accomplished! Couldn't be more proud or excited of the progress our student athletes are making. Roll Wave!"
SAMANTHA GREEN & SARA HALL
Samantha Green & Sara Hall went 1-1 in pool play, defeating Georgia State but falling to Florida State. Tulane first played FSU, where they fell in three 21-12, 23-21, and 15-9. However, Tulane's shut out of GSU 21-9 and 21-11 pushing the pair to the Champions bracket over Alabama State.Â
In the Champions bracket, Green & Hall took on Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi (TAMU-CC) who took the match in two, 21-17 and 21-13.Â
Green & Hall were sent to the 33rd bracket, where they first beat the University of Tennessee Chattanooga in two, 21-15 and 21-16. They next defeated Grand Canyon University 2-1, with set scores of 21-9, 22-20, and 15-12. In their final tournament matchup, Green & Hall played UC Davis, who took the match in two, 21-19 and 21-7. Green & Hall finished as 35th overall out of 64.Â
EMILY HEINTZELMAN & MCKENZIE CUTLER
Emily Heintzelman & McKenzie Cutler also made it out of pool play after going 1-1 with a win against the University of North Florida and a loss to Cal Poly. The pair beat UNF 21-19 and 21-15, but lost to Cal Poly 21-10 and 21-15. They finished third in the pool and advanced to the finals bracket.Â
There, they took on Pepperdine, who defeated the Green Wave in three with sets of 24-22, 21-15, and 15-13. Heintzelman & Cutler moved to the 33rd bracket, where they swept Stetson 21-16 and 24-22. However, a subsequent loss to TAMU-CC 21-18 and 21-16 sent Tulane to the 37th bracket.Â
In the 37th, Heintzelman & Cutler beat the University of Arizona 21-19 and 24-22. They finished 38th overall after falling to South Carolina 21-17 and 21-18.Â
UCLA won the title after beating TCU in the championship, while Stanford placed third after defeating Cal Poly.Â

Tulane will host a pairs tournament at White Sands from Nov. 22-23.Â
