Tulane Garners Conference Honors

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Tulane University had two student-athletes named Athlete of the Week by Conference USA for the past week. Sophomore Marie Ahlander (Stockholm, Sweden) was named the Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, while freshman Michael Kogan (Kfar-Saba, Israel) earned the same honor for men's tennis.
Ahlander won the triple jump at last weekend's prestigious Canon Classic in Indianapolis, Ind. In addition, to winning the meet, her jump of 13.23 meters exceeded the automatic qualifying mark for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. The NCAA standard is 13.15 meters. Ahlander follows freshman teammate Nadja Petersen (Stockholm, Sweden), who earned the conference honor two weeks ago.
Kogan, meanwhile, completed another perfect week on the tennis court. The No. 34 singles player in the country, he won both of his top flight singles matches this week and is now a perfect 6-0 in singles this spring. He has also teamed with senior Mikko Viljanen to be perfect at 6-0 in No. 1 doubles. Kogan and Viljanen, ranked No. 18 in the nation in doubles, upset the No. 5 ranked tandem from Baylor on Sunday, 9-8.
The Tulane indoor track and field team is back in action on Friday, competeing at the LSU Twilight Invitational in Baton Rouge. The Green Wave men's tennis squad is off until Saturday, Feb. 24, when it travels to UL-Lafayette.
