Berthelot Accepts New Position
March 12, 2001
NEW ORLEANS - Tulane Assistant Athletic Director for Broadcast Properties Ken Berthelot, the "Voice of the Green Wave" for the last 15 years, has taken a position as Director of Training with Dale Carnegie and Associates in New Orleans and will leave the university at the end of the March, he announced Monday.
"This was a very hard decision for me," Berthelot said. "My heart is with Tulane and it will always be with Tulane. The restructuring of Dale Carnegie nationally has opened up this opportunity, and Rich Mauti (former Saints player and area director for Dale Carnegie) made me an offer that was too good to pass up. It will also allow me to spend more time with my family after 15 years at Tulane and 30 years in broadcasting, and I'm really looking forward to that."
Berthelot has served as the play-by-play announcer for Tulane football and coordinator of the Green Wave network since 1986. He added men's basketball play-by-play duties when the program restarted in 1989-90 and was named assistant athletic director for broadcast properties in 1992. He served as co-host and producer of the Tulane football and basketball coaches shows on radio and television.
"Over the years, Ken Berthelot has been the voice that listeners across the city, state and country have identified with Tulane Football and Basketball," said Tulane Director of Athletics Rick Dickson. "We appreciate everything he has done for Tulane University and wish him all the best in his new endeavors."
Neither Dickson nor Berthelot ruled out the possibility that Berthelot will continue to be involved with the program in some capacity in the future.
"We'll be relying on Ken to pass on his knowledge, experience and contacts over the next month before he leaves Tulane," Dickson said, "and he's let us know that he'll still be around and available to assist us as we move forward."
