NEW ORLEANS - Tulane Athletics is inviting nominations for the 2004 class of its Athletics Hall of Fame. For the second consecutive year, the Tulane Athletics Hall of Fame, which is supported by the University's letterwinners organization, the "T-Club," is asking for input from Tulane fans, supporters and alumni in the form of nominations. The 2004 Hall of Fame induction will take place this fall during Homecoming Weekend on the Tulane campus. The date for Homecoming 2004 has not been announced.
Former Tulane student-athletes from all sports, former coaches, and former administrators are eligible for selection to the Hall of Fame. Student-athletes who completed their athletic careers during the 1998-99 seasons or before can be nominated this year.
To be considered for selection, student-athletes must meet the following criteria:
** The student-athlete must have brought above average recognition to him or herself and to Tulane University during his or her Green Wave athletics career;
** must have demonstrated qualities of leadership, sportsmanship, scholarship, character and integrity both during and after his or her Tulane career;
** must have received a varsity letter through participation in an intercollegiate sport;
** and must have completed his or her collegiate career at Tulane.
Nominees in the coaching and administrative categories must have served a minimum of four years as a head coach at Tulane (coaches) or have worked at Tulane a minimum of five years (administrators).
To submit nominations, interested parties may print out the nomination form (see link above) and fax the completed form to the Tulane Athletics Media Relations Office at 504-865-5512 or mail to James W. Wilson Center, Ben Weiner Drive, New Orleans, La. 70118. Supporting information in the way of letters, statistics and clippings will also be accepted but will not be returned. Nominations will also be taken via e-mail by sending similar information to that requested in the nomination form to dturner1@tulane.edu.
A listing of the previous inductees into the Hall of Fame is available on the Tulane Athletics website. New nominations will be certified and forwarded to the Hall of Fame Committee, which includes members of the media, Tulane Athletics Fund, T-Club and faculty representatives, and current Tulane student-athletes, coaches and athletics staff. Anyone may submit a nomination and this year's nominees will be kept on file for three years and be reconsidered during each subsequent review period. Several nominations have been held over from 2003 and will be reconsidered for this year. Nominations for the 2004 class will be accepted through April 30, 2004.
The newest class of the Tulane Athletics Hall of Fame will be announced in June and inducted during the 2004 Homecoming Weekend. Last year's Hall of Fame class of six, the first under the new format, included football's Ernie Colquette, women's basketball student-athletes Carmen Jones and Keisha Johnson, decorated volleyball player Alicia Robertson, baseball record-holder Jason Navarro and long-time administrator M.L. Lagarde.
