Tulane Student-Athletes Support Two Successful Projects
March 29, 2000
NEW ORLEANS - As a continuation of its community outreach efforts, Tulane University student-athletes are supporting a number of successful projects this spring.
One of the highlights of the spring is the annual "Shadow a Student-Athlete Day," where sixth-grade students from Lafayette Elementary School will be paired individually with a Tulane student-athlete and take part in their daily activities.
This special event is scheduled for Tuesday, April 4, and will run from 8:30 a.m.-1:15 p.m. Seventy student-athletes are scheduled to take part in the program. It is the second year in which Green Wave student-athletes have hosted "Shadow a Student-Athlete Day."
The Tulane Student-Athlete Advisory Board (SAAB) recently completed the "SAAB Shoe Drive" to benefit a local charity. With the help of the Department of Athletics, SAAB was able to collect more than 100 pairs of shoes for the Salvation Army.
"The Student-Athlete Advisory Board does a wonderful job of bringing the student-athletes and the New Orleans community together," said SAAB president Liz Gruns. "The continued support of the student-athletes and the Tulane administration will help us in providing positive results."
The SAAB's membership is made of two representatives from each of Tulane's 16 varsity sports. Tulane student-athletes continue to be actively involved in a wide variety of projects benefiting the New Orleans community.
