The Green Wave men defeated No. 1 seed South Florida, 4-1, at Goldring Tennis Center in New Orleans, while the women rolled to a 4-0 victory over top seed UAB in Hattiesburg, Miss.
Both teams earned the doubles points in their matches, setting the stage for the victories in singles action. For the Wave men, freshman Michael Kogan (Kfar Saba, Israel) and sophomore Jorge Lievano (Bucaramanga, Colombia) each won, while senior Mikko Viljanen (Vantaa, Finland) clinched the Championship. On the women's side, freshman Nancy Kockett (East London, South Africa) and sophomore Julie Morris (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) opened the scoring and junior Maiko Cook (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) clinched the victory.
For the men, it is their second C-USA title, the other came in 1997. It is the first-ever tennis championship for the Green Wave women's team.
Both teams earn automatic bids to the NCAA Tennis Championships in May.
In addition to Sunday's tennis success, the Green Wave baseball team completed a three-game sweep of Southern Miss with a 22-3 blowout in Hattiesburg.
