Tulane Coaches Embark on Spring Tour
April 22, 2002
NEW ORLEANS - A group of Tulane head coaches and athletics administrators, including football coach Chris Scelfo, basketball coaches Shawn Finney and Lisa Stockton and athletics director Rick Dickson, will take to the road this week for the annual Tulane Athletics Fund "Spring Tour" with stops in Monroe, Shreveport and Alexandria scheduled for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (April 24-26) respectively.
Plans are to hold similar events this May in Lake Charles, Lafayette and Baton Rouge with the Lake Charles stop already scheduled for May 6 and the remaining dates and sites to be announced.
In each city, the Tulane contingent, which will also include head volleyball coach Betsy Becker, senior associate athletic director J.D. Barnett and associate athletic director Scott Sidwell, will attend a reception at the home of a local Tulane Athletics Fund member where they will give an update on their programs, and meet with other local supporters throughout the day. Every event is open to the public, although reservations are required.
"It's an excellent opportunity for us to bring the Tulane Athletics success story to our fans and supporters in these Louisiana cities," said J.D. Barnett, Tulane Senior Associate Athletics Director for Revenue Development. "I think our fans enjoy meeting the coaches and hearing first-hand about their programs and student-athletes in a relaxed atmosphere."
In Monroe on Wednesday, April 24, talk is sure to center on the Green Wave football team's 2002 trip to the north Louisiana city where Tulane will take on UL-Monroe in football for the first time in school history on October 5. Shreveport has sent several of its homegrown products to Tulane of late, including Wave baseball standout Michael Aubrey and basketball forward Nick Sinville. And Alexandria native Adrian Mitchell was Tulane's top defender a year ago from his free safety spot as he ranked 21st in the country in tackles.
