Tulane and WTIX-AM 690 Ink Three-Year Radio Deal
May 18, 2004
NEW ORLEANS - WTIX-AM 690, a 10,000-watt locally-owned station, is the new flagship radio station for Tulane Athletics, Derek Morel, Assistant Vice President and General Manager of Tulane-ISP Sports, and Dan Frazier, General Manager of WTIX-AM 690, announced Tuesday in conjunction with Green Wave Associate Athletic Director Scott Sidwell. As the flagship station for the Tulane-ISP Radio Network, WTIX-AM 690 will carry all Tulane football and men's basketball games, as well as the weekly Tulane Coaches' Call-In Show, broadcast live from Superior Grill on St. Charles Ave. from September through March.
With the three-year agreement, WTIX-AM 690, which has aired Green Wave men's and women's basketball games and coaches' shows over the last two years, becomes the official flagship station for Green Wave Athletics.
"We're excited that we are now officially the flagship station for Tulane Athletics," said Frazier. "This is a big step for us. Being locally-owned, we have made it a priority to serve the New Orleans market in the best way possible, and carrying Tulane Athletics allows us to do that while providing a strong signal that will take Tulane Athletics to a large section of southeast Louisiana."
In addition to the games and coaches' shows, WTIX-AM 690 will continue to air the "Tulane Daily Minute" twice each weekday during morning and afternoon drive. The station is currently carrying the "Tulane Coaches' Call-In Show" with baseball coach Rick Jones each Monday from Noon-12:30 p.m. and is also the home of the "Tulane Sports Report" with host Jeff Crouere, airing twice each weekend, at 1 p.m. every Saturday and 7 a.m. each Sunday, throughout the year.
"This is a partnership in all aspects," Frazier continued. "It is not just about carrying the games and coaches' shows for us. A part of why we want to be associated with Tulane is because it's not just about the games there either, it's an overall program and a great university that is an important part of this community."
"It's great to have a single radio home and a strong flagship station for Green Wave fans in New Orleans and across southeast Louisiana for the next three years," Sidwell said. "WTIX-AM has been a part of our network for the last several years and with their strong signal and willingness to work with us on so many fronts, it's a win-win situation for all parties."
With the new agreement, WTIX-AM 690 will be the official flagship station for Tulane Athletics through the 2006-2007 year.
