For Chris Scelfo, Football Coach
Hi Coach, I just wanted to know if you can tell anything about how our recruiting is going. I am in the Baton Rouge area but I mostly watch the New Orleans TV stations. They all do a poor job of covering Tulane. Maybe someone in our (TULANE) media department needs to have a talk with those stations to give Tulane some more coverage. Almost every night LSU is mentioned and Tulane is forgotten. Someone at Tulane needs to get on the ball and keep our name before all those recruits out there. Spark some interest. Maybe season ticket sales will go up. GOOD LUCK COACH AND FIND SOMEONE TO KEEP US IN THIS TIGER TERITORY INFORMED ON TULANE.
THANKS
BILL KOCKE
Chris Scelfo - "Our recruiting is going well. We've concentrated on in-state recruiting first and then branching out to Texas, Mississippi, Florida and Alabama. I'm sorry we don't get the coverage we deserve, but stay tuned to our website to keep up with what's going on here."
Have arrangements been made for TU football camp this summer for kids? The cancellation was frustrating when we had booked tickets and thought overnight campers were possible. Thanks
Bill Beam, Jr.
Prospect, KY
Chris Scelfo - "We will have a day camp June 4-6 beginning at 8 a.m. and ending at approximately 6:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday the first session ends at 11:30 a.m. The second session begins Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. and ends Friday at 6:30 p.m. We do have arrangements with the DoubleTree Hotel if you need hotel accommodations and we will transport campers back and forth. But we will not have hotel monitors. It's a great opportunity for your son or grandson or nephew to be exposed to college football and a college campus as well as receive expert football instruction."
Hey coach! Why did Clemson drop off the football schedule and will we continue to play LSU and OLE MISS every year?
Mark Desoto
Mandeville, LA
Chris Scelfo - "We needed another home game to give us five home games for this season. That is what happened to Clemson, and we were able to arrange a game with Southern. We will play LSU in 2001, however, beyond that, our non-conference schedule is not set."
What do you expect out of the running game this season?
Craig Meyer
Hammond, LA
Chris Scelfo - "I would like to improve to average 150 yards per game rushing which would make us a more balanced offense. I expect Mewelde Moore, Brant Hocke, Kris Coleman, Jeff Kirven and Gee Reshard all to contribute to the production and with the addition of Jeff Sanders in that fall, that area should complement our passing game very well and continue to make us a formidable offensive team."
For Shawn Finney, Men's Basketball Coach
You are a 1985 graduate of Fairmont State. In November of 1984, Tulane opened its season against Fairmont (the Green Wave won, 72-63). This is the only time the two schools have met. Did you play in that game and do you have any memories of the game? Thanks and best of luck.
Reuben I. Friedman
New Orleans, LA
Shawn Finney - "I was on that 1985 Fairmont State team, but I did not play in the Tulane game. I do not remember the game too much. Who would have thought at that time that someday I would be the head coach of Tulane on the very same floor that we were playing at? It is surprising that with Tulane's great history, I had never been to Fogelman Arena for a game other than that one time. I had been with teams that used Fogelman for practice, but never for games."
What is the outlook for the 2001-2002 basketball season?
Alyn Thomsen
Lawrence, KS
Shawn Finney - "I have to say that our outlook is very positive. I was not happy with the results of last season, but I was happy with our team and the effort they showed every day, whether in games or practice. Every player on our team improved from the beginning of the season to the end.
This summer I am sure our guys will be working hard once again, but this year, they will know what they are working for. They know what to expect from me and my coaching staff, as well as our style of play. With the experience of our guys coming back as well as the great players we have added through recruiting, I think Tulane Basketball will be a lot of fun to watch. We obviously plan on being a more successful team on the court, but we will continue to play a high-energy, high-effort style. We always want to be known as a team that works harder than anybody else.
While our team will be improved, so will our schedule and our opponents. We feel that in order to be the best, you need to play the best. So we have upgraded our schedule. Nothing is finalized yet, but I think we will have Mississippi State and Vanderbilt here at home. And we could be playing some other SEC schools as well. Once again, all the teams in Conference USA should be tough. Some teams have lost guys to the NBA Draft, but that just goes to show how great of a basketball league this is. All of the coaches have been working hard on the recruiting trail and it should be another fun year in Conference USA."
