Monhartova, Junius Earn Conference USA Recognition

NEW ORLEANS, La. - - Tulane student-athletes Anna Monhartova and Nathan Junius were each named the Conference USA Scholar-Athlete of the Year for their respective sports, the league office announced on Thursday.
The C-USA Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards are presented to the top student-athletes in each conference-sponsored sport. The award is based on academic achievement (GPA), athletic achievement and service.
Monhartova, a senior from Plzen, Czech Republic, was selected as the league's top women's tennis scholar-athlete. She helped lead the Green Wave to its first-ever Conference USA title, and became the first Tulane women's tennis player to earn a berth in the singles draw of the NCAA Tournament. She picked GTE Academic All-District honors and was selected as the Southwest Region's Arthur Ashe Sportsmanship and Leadership award winner for the second straight season.
Monhartova was also named as Tulane's female Student-Athlete of the Year. In addition, Monhartova was one of six C-USA student-athletes to earn a Postgraduate Scholarship from the league office. After being selected by Faculty Athletics Representatives from each league school, the winners are presented with a $4,000 scholarship.
Junius, a junior from New Orleans, was named the conference's top scholar-athlete for men's track and field. He earned All-America honors in the javelin this spring after finishing third in the event at the NCAA Championships. A three-time Conference USA champion in the javelin, Junious was selected as Tulane's male Student-Athlete of theYear.
