June 7, 2002
NEW ORLEANS - Tulane has filled eight openings on its athletics staff as three newcomers have joined the Green Wave Athletics Department and five current staff members have been promoted. In addition, Tulane marketing and broadcasting partner, ISP Sports, announced that TU alum Charles Allen has been named Assistant General Manager of its Tulane ISP Sports property.
The Green Wave filled two key openings on its support staff with newcomers as Video Coordinator Will Davis and Director of Equipment Operations Pete Maglieri come to Tulane from the University of Wisconsin and UCLA, respectively. Davis served one year as Assistant Video Coordinator at the University of Wisconsin and has also held video positions with the XFL's Memphis Maniacs and with the Greensboro Prowlers of the Arena Football League. Davis also worked on the collegiate level at the University of Houston and at Wake Forest University. He is a 1999 graduate of Winston-Salem State University and a native of New Bern, N.C. Maglieri is a California native who is familiar to Louisiana after earning his bachelor's degree from LSU in 1996. Maglieri served an internship with the New Orleans Saints following graduation before moving on to spend two years at the University of Houston. For the past six years, Maglieri has served as Assistant Equipment Manager at UCLA where he headed up the equipment staff for five sports, including football.
In another support staff switch, Tulane promoted Curtis Tsuruda, who served the last year as Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach, to Director of Strength & Conditioning. Tsuruda previously spent four seasons as assistant strength & conditioning coordinator at LSU where he worked with many programs, including the Tigers' nationally-reknown baseball program. He was the head strength coach at his alma mater, Hawaii, for three years prior to that. Tsuruda will direct the strength & conditioning program for all 14 Tulane sports.
In addition to Tsuruda, four other individuals were promoted, including Ticket Manager Tim Zenner, who had served as assistant ticket manager for the past 18 months, and Assistant Ticket Manager Marty Stokley, who came to Tulane in January as the Ticket Office Intern. Mike Bastian was named Facilities Supervisor while Steve Walsh will take over duties as the Assistant Marketing/Promotions Director.
Allen is a 10-year veteran of the corporate sales and marketing arena who will assist in administering all aspects of ISP's partnership with the Green Wave. He has spent the last three years as a senior account supervisor for the Temerlin McClain/Interpublic Group where he administered the promotion of Popeye's Fried Chicken franchises. He is a 1992 graduate of Tulane who is active with the university and in civic affairs throughout the New Orleans community.
Finally, Jodi Arieux, formerly of DMI Travel in New Orleans, joins the Tulane staff in the newly-created position of Travel Coordinator.
