| Summary Led by the unprecedented success of the 2001 Tulane Baseball team, the Tulane Athletics program reached some of its greatest heights -- individually and collectively -- over the last year. Tulane won a school -record tying six Conference USA Championships in 2000-01, 11 student-athletes were named All-Americans and Green Wave teams made 10 NCAA appearances. Tulane placed as one of the top 70 programs in the nation according to the Sears' Director's Cup point standings - despite fielding only 16 programs. In addition to their success on the fields and courts, more than 40 Green Wave student-athletes earned their degrees from Tulane this spring, including 17 members of the TU football team. Green Wave teams participated in numerous community service projects during the year, including "Shadow A Student Athlete Day", the Special Olympics and school visits. At the first "Varsity Ball" honoring senior student-athletes from all sports, tennis player Anna Monhartova and track and field's Nathan Junius were honored as the 2000-01 Scholar Athletes of the Year. Monhartova was ranked as high as No. 9 in the nation while recording a 3.85 cumulative grade point average in a double major of Political Science International Relations and Russian. Junius has a 3.42 grade point average in Civil Engineering and was an NCAA All-American, placing third in the javelin in 2001. | |
