New Radio Flagship for Tulane Athletics
July 19, 2001
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Tulane University and ISP Sports, the university's new sports marketing partner, have reached an agreement with WTIX-FM to serve as the new radio flagship station for all Green Wave football and men's basketball radio programming.
The 100,000-watt FM station will carry all Tulane game broadcasts in the two sports, as well as call-in shows featuring head football coach Chris Scelfo and head basketball coach Shawn Finney.
"Since acquiring the Tulane sports marketing rights this March, our primary objective has been to build a consistent, fulltime day and night, statewide radio presence in New Orleans and across Louisiana," ISP Sports president Ben Sutton says. "A major component to that effort has been the securing of a flagship station whose first priority would be Green Wave Athletics. In WTIX-FM, with its extremely strong 100,000-watt signal, we are confident that we have found such a flagship."
WTIX replaces both WSMB-AM and WWL-AM, which have shared the Tulane broadcasts in the New Orleans market in recent years.
"With WTIX-FM, we now have a powerful station that will carry our entire broadcast package on a fulltime basis," Sutton continued. "We see this as a tremendous opportunity and a service to Tulane supporters throughout the New Orleans region."
ISP is currently finalizing a list of network affiliates that will provide greater overall coverage in football and include coverage of men's basketball, which had not been available on a network basis in the past.
Based in Winston-Salem, NC, ISP Sports is the exclusive multimedia rightsholder for 14 major Division One athletic programs. The company produces radio networks at Georgia Tech, Marshall, Southern Mississippi, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest, in addition to Tulane.
