Turner Joins Tulane Athletics Staff

NEW ORLEANS - Donna Turner, previously a member of athletics administrations at Florida State University and at the University of Houston, has joined the Tulane University athletic department as Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations.
Turner, 37, comes to Tulane after a brief stint as Director of Media Relations and Publicity at the Women's Tennis Association in Stamford, Conn., where she coordinated public relations efforts for professional women's tennis players at tournaments around the world.
She served as Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Information at the University of Houston from 1994-99, directing the media relations operations for the Cougars' 15-sport program.
From 1988-94, Turner was assistant and then associate sports information director at her alma mater, Florida State University, where she was in charge of media relations, publications production and press operations for the Seminoles' nationally-ranked football and baseball teams. She was FSU's primary football contact during the 1993 national championship season, which included handling all media requests and publicity for Heisman Trophy winner Charlie Ward and his teammates. Turner also worked with award winners Deion Sanders, Marvin Jones, Derrick Brooks and Casey Weldon during her time at Florida State.
Her experience also includes working at the baseball venue at the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games in Atlanta and in press operations at the 1999 NCAA Men's Basketball Final Four in St. Petersburg, Fla. Turner has been media relations director at five NCAA Baseball regionals and has worked three NCAA Basketball Regional and First/Second Round tournaments.
Turner, a native of Gainesville, Fla., received a bachelor's degree in communications from FSU in 1985 and earned her master's degree in sports administration from Ohio University in 1987.
